Timberheat Saunas is a family-run venture owned by my partner Melanie and me, William Whyte Hogan, based out of our Deep Cove home on Vancouver’s North Shore. We’re joined by our four-year-old daughter Willow, who insists it’s a “mesauna,” and our Schnoodle Zero, who’s sidelined since dogs don’t sweat.
I’ve dedicated over 20 years to the timber industry, five of which were spent as project lead for one of British Columbia’s finest timberframe houses, alongside shaping projects like Bison Lodge in Revelstoke, one of Canada’s top private heli-ski lodges. I love wood for its natural beauty and sustainability as a building material. But modern sustainable forestry practices have shifted us toward new-growth, immature forest products that lack the durability of old-growth timbers. This drove North Americans to toxic synthetics like PVC decking and siding, while Europeans rediscovered their Viking roots, using heat to treat timber. This refined process, called thermally modified wood, isn’t all equal—Europeans have mastered it, while others have copied it with inferior results.
Timberheat Saunas brings this mastery to you with our premium DIY kits, designed for anyone who’s tackled an IKEA bed or bookcase, crafted from the finest thermally modified wood for beauty and longevity. As a one-stop shop, we also offer full design-build services, from photorealistic conceptual designs to finished bespoke saunas for homes or businesses. Our turnkey solutions cover it all—strata approvals, permits, bylaws, heater sizing, site prep, and more. With a lifetime of knowledge about wood products and project navigation, I can guide you from a simple strata-approved backyard kit to a custom wellness center.
I believe in life you get what you pay for, and our products deliver exceptional value through craftsmanship, quality, and design.
From our family to yours, Timberheat Saunas builds enduring wellness spaces. Attention to detail, an obsession with design, and going out of my way to help and educate people is part of my DNA.
